2.4.6 - Headings and labels

The intent of this success criterion is to help users understand what information is contained in web pages and how that information is organized. When headings are clear and descriptive, users can find the information they seek more easily, and they can understand the relationships between different parts of the content more easily.

Ways to meet the criterion

Headings and labels describe topic or purpose. Write clear and descriptive headings, sub-headings and labels for content. This helps users understand what your content is about, decide if it is relevant and go directly to the information they are looking for.

Ensure that headings are provided at the beginning of each section or subsection of content.

Avoid duplicating heading or label text unless the structure provides adequate differentiation between them.
